CRYSTAL LAKE, IL (June 4, 2010) – On June 11, 12 and 13 nearly 200 participants will travel round trip from McHenry County, IL to Lake Geneva, WI as part of the American Lung Association in Greater Chicago's
Lake Tour Bike Trek. Trekkers ride over 150 miles to support the Association's Fight for Air as well as life saving research, advocacy and educational programs. This year marks the 25th anniversary of the event.
Trekkers will travel a different scenic route each day and Friday and Saturday's routes finish at
The Abbey Resort and Spa in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin. Trekkers enjoy The Abbey's deluxe accommodations and buffet style meals catered to the cyclist's appetite.
"My mom and I are riding in honor of my grandmother who passed away from lung disease," says Mara Berkun, a first year rider. "We feel this is a great way to commemorate and honor such a wonderful woman."
While trekkers ride for different reasons, personal achievement, a new cycling experience or to honor a loved one are some of the top examples. Each participant fundraises over $600 to be eligible to participate and the event brought in an amazing $170,000 last year. Trekkers may participate as an individual or as part of a team.
